Since its beginning in 1974, DASCH continues to provide innovative and progressive approaches to support. Following the philosophy of community inclusion, every person is provided the opportunity to fully participate in community life.

DASCH Inc. homes are located all across Winnipeg. We provide support and learning opportunities in all areas of daily living. People are encouraged to participate fully in their local community; to be understood as valued citizens locally and nationally.
With a focus on individual needs, our two community based DASCH Day Programs provide each participant with meaningful activites throughout the day. Since 1984, DASCH has sucessfully provided individuals with a combination of vocational, leisure, recreational, life skills and communication programs. Due to our success in enhancing people's lives, we have evolved into satalite programming. One program is located on St. Anne's Rd and the other on Roblin Blvd.
In 2007 The Individualized Vocational Services (IVS) and the Individualized Recreational and Retirement Services (IRRS) were opened.

These two new programs differ from our other two Day Programs in that they are based out of a person's home rather than a central location. The IRRS program is intended for older or semi-retired people and for those that prefer a slower pace and quieter environment. The IVS program focuses on people gaining employment and vocational skills.
Specialized Support & Resource Services (SSRS) assist people in developing adaptive life skills towards inclusion and accessibility in their community. The department is made up of four service areas:
*subject to availability
When requested, an SSRS staff will assess a person's needs and provide the following necessary support mechanisms:
SSRS educates and trains staff in teaching positive, adaptive behaviour/communication. SSRS regularly holds professional development seminars for staff on topics such as:
All behaviour/communication plans include input from the person, staff, family and any other relevant parties (e.g. psychiatrist, occupational therapist, speech-language pathologist, etc.)
Skill development groups are regularly held in the following areas:
Groups are comprised of 12 one-hour weekly sessions. Groups are facilitated by Danya Barnhardt. Groups are specifically developed for individuals with developmental disabilities and are structured according to the participants' levels of understanding. All groups involve role-play, discussion, a homework component and letters of information to caregivers to encourage participation and generalization to other environments.
The Anger Management/Assertiveness Training group assists participants in identifying their anger triggers and learning cognitive and behavioural responses to anger provoking situations. Sessions focus on emotion identification, relaxation and deep breathing training, and self statements and problem-solving.
The Relationship Group is individualized through an initial needs survey of 18 topics. Some of the topics available include:
The Sexual Education group may include subjects such as:
If interested in any of the above skill groups, please call 987-1551. The courses are open to everyone whether or not they are supported by DASCH.
