November is Indigenous Disability Awareness Month (IDAM)! DASCH is proud to support people living with intellectual disabilities from all backgrounds and recognizes that Indigenous people in Canada experience higher rates of disability than non-Indigenous people.
The BC Aboriginal Network on Disability Society created this month of awareness in 2015 to bring awareness to the unique and compounded barriers Indigenous people living with disabilities face, and to celebrate their achievements and valuable contributions to their community.
IDAM is declared and recognized by British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and many more cities and organizations across Canada.
Stay tuned for more information about this month and how DASCH is continuing to work to provide the people we support and our staff with the opportunity to learn about, and connect to Indigenous cultures.
