Donor Feature: The Loeppky Family

For the Loeppky family, supporting the DASCH Foundation is deeply personal. As parents, Angela and Byron have spent their daughter Hannah’s whole life making sure she has had the care, support, and opportunities she needed to grow.
That journey has shown the family how important strong services are for people with intellectual disabilities and for the families who love them.
Support Professionals Impact
Over time, the Loeppkys learned that families cannot do this work alone. Professional support, stable programs, and caring staff all play a vital role in helping people live full and meaningful lives. They also gained a deep respect for the people who choose to work as direct support professionals (DSPs).
“They [DSPs] choose to use the gifts within them to make a difference,” says Angela.
Finding a Second Home at DASCH
When Hannah moved into a DASCH home, it was one of the hardest decisions her family had ever made. They found the opportunity for Hannah to make a home at DASCH sooner than expected.
“We were ready to find all the red flags we could, so we could table this transition until ‘next time’. But the red flags were not there,” says Angela.
The DASCH home and day program they toured met all the qualifications on their checklist. It felt safe, respectful, and welcoming. They were impressed by the staff and comforted by the care shown not only to Hannah, but to their whole family during that transition.
The Power of Community
One moment has stayed with Angela. During a supper in the home, one of Hannah’s soon-to-be roommates said to her, “We have all been together for a long time, and we are like a family. But don’t worry – we have room in our hearts for Hannah. She is welcome into our family.”
This is why the Loeppky family chooses to give to the DASCH Foundation. They know our society is better and richer when people with disabilities are supported with dignity, respect, and options to build the life they want. She wants Hannah and others who need support to have the same opportunities, care, and sense of home that every family wants for someone they love.
“Individuals with disabilities will always need support – some will need lots, some minimal, and some in between. We all need to take care of each other,” says Angela.
